- Pair of 18th-Century Florentine Console Tables | Antique Furniture
A pair of corner console tables, originally part of a grand palace furnishing ensemble that also included at least one large wall console. Carved and gilded, they stand on truncated pyramidal legs terminating in ball feet, enriched with carved foliate motifs enveloping the tapering supports. The uprights culminate in finely carved turned elements with pronounced central constrictions, joining the frieze adorned with small rosettes set within reserves.
The frieze is carved with an interlacing Greek key pattern forming medallions; the central reserve features a classical profile painted in ochre tones against a blue ground, beneath which hangs an apron carved with acanthus leaves. The background of the friezes is finely tooled and framed within two elegant classical borders decorated with continuous leaf motifs. The magnificent tops are in pietra serena veneered with breccia medicea marble.
Dimensions: 86 × 53 × 53 cm

These two pieces belong to the characteristic Tuscan production of the Neoclassical period. Enrico Colle illustrates a pair of tables displaying the same leg design and a closely comparable central medallion featuring antique-style profiles. The scholar attributes these tables, now in Palazzo Pitti, to the circle of Lorenzo Dolci.
