The pair of vases presented here is part of one of the most representative productions by Paolo Venini (Cusano Milanino, 1895 – Venice, 1959) from the second half of the 1950s. Italian glassmaker, designer and entrepreneur, protagonist of 20th century Murano glass, contributed in a decisive way to the vitality of the art of fire, achieving extraordinary results also recognized internationally.
The Incisi are thick glass finished cold with a slight grinding and dense horizontal incisions, characterized by delicate but decisive colors, obtained thanks to the overlapping of various layers of transparent colored glass. The series, which has about fifty models, was presented in 1956 at the XXVIII Venice Biennale and the following year at the XI Milan Triennale, enjoying great success not only in Italy but also internationally, especially in the Scandinavian area, the geographical region which with its design with essential lines had inspired Paolo Venini in the conception of the same.
