Crucified Christ, Tuscany, ca 1470-1480.

Description:

Polychrome wooden sculpture depicting the Crucified Christ, with emaciated limbs and the head leaning on his chest; his body is painted with an earthy tint, around the hips a loincloth that has been taken up in the lacquering.

Dimensions: 97 x 75cm

CODE: ARARAR0204983

Historical-stylistic analysis:

The work in question was created in the Tuscany area, between the seventies and eighties of the fifteenth century, as evidenced by the almost melancholy elegance of the figure.
Christ is rendered with great anatomical accuracy: the veins of the arms, as well as the wound on the side, are made in relief using hemp rope, subsequently covered in stucco and then lacquered.
