Louis Vuitton trunk datable between 1888 and 1890, a period corresponding to the first years of production of the Damier canvas, a fabric characterized by checkered motifs invented a few years earlier by Georges Vuitton, Louis’ son. The dating is made possible firstly thanks to the original label bearing the unique number of the product (29384), secondly by observing the iron closures, the wood and iron finishes and the studs, which were not still marked with letters.
It is a malle cabine, that is a small and compact trunk used to keep clothes and items of daily use inside, created to be stored under the bed in the cabins of transatlantic liners. Equipped with a quilted padded lid and an internal top shelf with paper lining. The initials “B. D.”, placed externally on both short sides, provide information regarding the first owner. Perfectly restored.
Louis Vuitton trunks, iconic pieces of furniture and collectibles, are still resistant and waterproof today, examples of great craftsmanship.
Dimensions: 33 x 80 x 47cm
