Historical-artistic analysis:

Venice is renowned as the city of mirrors, both for its production of mercury-silvered glass plates and for the exceptional craftsmanship of its master woodcarvers.

This example features a typical Venetian Baroque frame, characterised by recessed, shaped panels decorated with delicate Baroque carvings and backgrounds embellished with a stippled texture created using a burin.

Surrounding this frame, a type found in numerous examples, including some particularly celebrated ones, is an elaborate arrangement of Baroque carvings featuring scrolls, shells and flowers, executed with the lightness and elegance characteristic of Venetian craftsmanship.
