Louis Vuitton Malle Armoire. Paris, around 1930

Description:

Louis Vuitton trunk datable to the third decade of the twentieth century, restored and brought back to its original condition. It is a Malle Armoire, i.e. a trunk-closet that can be opened vertically in two parts, internally equipped with a section with one or more compartments and a wardrobe section for hanging clothes. Made for both ladies and gentlemen, these trunks can be entirely wardrobes or made up of compartments only.

Upholstered in Monogram canvas, a fabric featuring rosette and monogram (“LV”) motifs, invented in 1896 by Georges Vuitton, son of Louis. The hardware is brass, the locks and nails are hallmarked, the finishes lozine and wood. The initials “E. P. P.”, placed on both short sides, provide information regarding the first owner; the blue strip in the center of the boot completes the customization. Interior lined with canvas, hangers, two openable shoe compartments with velvet interior, and original product label.

Lock bearing the unique number (075475). Malle armoire is a real travel piece of furniture, whose ingenuity comes from its internal arrangement, which allowed hanging clothes to be transported without forming creases.
Louis Vuitton trunks, iconic pieces of furniture and collectibles, are still resistant and waterproof today, examples of great craftsmanship.
