Page suit, 18th – 19th century

Antique collectible suit, consisting of trousers, shirt, vest and headdress.
The waistcoat is the most precious part, datable to the 18th century, while the other parts that make up the suit belong to the following century.
The vest has an ivory-colored silk bodice, preciously and finely embroidered with floral motifs. The embroideries are handmade, very realistic even in the colors.
The small buttons, covered with the same ivory fabric as the waistcoat, feature the same embroideries with small flowers.
The trousers, hat and bodice are in red silk satin.

The shirt has slightly puffed gold sleeves, embellished with ecru lace appliqués and cotton trimmings and intertwined metal threads. The four large buttons are in gilded brass, engraved with the baronial crown. The red silk trousers have an application in the same gold-colored fabric as the sleeves of the shirt, and enriched with lace. The headdress, on the other hand, features the same trimmings sewn on the edges and sleeves of the shirt. The laces are mechanical, skillfully created with the first embroidery machines. All the items that make up the dress are in silk and silk satin.

Size: total length from shoulder to trouser hem 95 cm, measure from shoulder to shoulder 34 cm ( 37,4 x 13,3 in )

Historical-stylistic analysis:

The nineteenth century was the era of historical events such as shows, grand balls, parties and re-enactments. The clothes were created and worn on the occasion of these holidays: they were conceived in a theatrical way starting from the style; great attention was given to decorations and details, to precious fabrics such as silks and organza, to the hems of intertwined lace. This little Moorish dress was probably created and used precisely for a masked ball: the 18th century vest was later enriched with trousers, shirt and headgear.
